Baptism is the first Sacrament of Initiation into the Christian Church. The word means to plunge into water, to be cleansed and rise to new life. Baptism, like all the Sacraments, requires preparation. For infants, the responsibility is with parents. For young children, the responsibility is with the family. When an adult seeks baptism, they and the community journey together. An adult receives the three Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Communion at one celebration.

Baptism is the desire to participate in the living Body of Christ.
